There are several new drugs out that can help someone with smoking cessation. It relieves the craving feeling that smokers get when trying to quit, making it easier for them to stop smoking. Among all the new smoking cessation drugs is one called Wellbutrin (Bupropion).

Wellbutrin has helped people stop smoking and it’s helped some with depression, but do the benefits of taking it outweigh the side effects? This remains to be answered. The side effects of Wellbutrin can be nasty, while there are people who glide right through treatment without incident.

The following list (from WebMD) of side effects isn’t conclusive or without omissions. First are the common side effects.
  • Severe feeling of restlessness
  • Severe anxiety
  • Severe dry mouth
  • Infrequent bowel movements
  • Dizziness
  • Chronic sleep loss
  • Sweating more than usual
  • Shakiness
  • No interest in food
  • Weight loss
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Stomach cramps
Not-so-common side effects of Wellbutrin include but are not limited to:

  • Cannot focus thoughts
  • Hallucination
  • Confused
  • Extra happy, energetic beyond normal
  • Delusions
  • Paranoia
  • Suicidal tendencies or thoughts
  • Loss of reality
  • Loss of normal personality
  • Thoughts of hurting/killing others

There’s a long list of uncommon side effects, these are just a selection – alone, even one of those would be scary, but these are experienced at the same time, for some patients. People have been hurt, they’ve hurt others and some have even gone to jail because of these uncommon side effects, and truthfully, they aren‘t that uncommon.

Be informed, Google any new medicine you get, read up on it and know what you’re taking. Talk to the doctor and ask about side effects while in his/her office.

I’m Dreaming

Michael Jackson
Cover of Michael Jackson

Okay, so if you are Christmas minded at all, you read that title and finished with the words “of a white Christmas.” I love that song. The funny thing is, I have never actually had a white Christmas! I have seen snow one time in my life when I went into the mountains, but never on Christmas.

I made my final payment at Payday One today. It is awesome to be going into Christmas debt free!

So, the question of the day is… Christmas is coming! Are you ready?

I am very ready! I have almost all of my gifts bought already. I have a few handmade gifts to finish, but everything else is done and just needing wrapped.

I found this great little kit for my son. It is really amazing. I think I am going to want to play with it when he actually gets it open! It is an electrical kit that we can use to build over 300 different projects. These include a light, an alarm, a lie detector and many more projects. I really hope he likes it.

Each of the kids will get an outfit and new socks. They will each get a pair of new shoes. They will also get two DVDs each as well as two books to read each. Lastly, they will get a big gift from Santa and a few small stocking stuffer type items.

The great part about the little ones is when I can suggest to them what they will want Santa to bring. “Wouldn’t it be cool if Santa brought you an MP3 player?” Immediately that is what my youngest wanted. She even asked me to call Santa and tell him! She loves Michael Jackson, so she asked that I make sure Santa knows to put her favorite songs on there as well.

How to Talk to Your Kids About Smoking

There are several approaches you can take when you talk to your kids about smoking. Try to have this conversation regularly as your child grows up so you can gauge his or her feelings and thoughts. Add in more statistics and health information depending on the age of your child. This can help prevent your kids from ever trying a cigarette. You can also use this conversation to help your kids or teenagers stop smoking.

Find out what your child knows about smoking. This will turn it into a conversation instead of just a lecture. It also helps you understand the peer pressure that exists. Try role playing with your child so they know exactly what to say when offered a cigarette.

Research together. You don’t want to scare your children. Just let them know the truth about the harmful effects of cigarettes and tobaccos. You can find lists of all of the chemical compounds and health risks. Assure your child that their medical care is safe with an Rx card, but they also need to take steps to be as healthy as possible.

Get help from their school. Many schools have anti-drug and anti-smoking campaigns and clubs. You can get literature and help from these organizations about how to talk to your kids about smoking. If the school doesn’t have one of these programs then consider starting one.

You’ll need to dispel myths to have an effective conversation. Ask your child what the appeal of smoking is. Talk about how it might appear like a popular fad, but it can have addictive properties. In addition to the health effects, you can review the cost of cigarettes both in terms of healthcare and the actual cost of the product. You can also talk about the ways it affects the outward appearance such as coughing or discoloration of the teeth.

Impotence is one of those conditions that are grossly under reported. Hesitance in sufferers to acknowledge that the have a problem and seek help means that impotence cases may be much higher than what statistics show. While men face erectile dysfunction, women too can face a loss of libido. Impotence can wreak havoc in a person’s life by creating embarrassing situations, breaking relationships and greatly impacting self esteem. For the treatment of impotence, it is vital to identify the cause first.

There can be several causes of these conditions. Hormonal disorders, obesity, stress, drugs, injury and aging are just a few of them. Impotence is also often attributed to heavy smoking. Compared to non-smokers or light smokers, chain smokers or people who smoke more than a pack a day are more likely to develop some form of impotence or the other. This would be loss of libido, failure to maintain erections or even failure to have an erection at all. Beating the addiction to tobacco can go a long way in treating impotence.

Tobacco alternate products like nicotine patches and chewing gums have been developed to help people quit smoking. Another such product that has become the rave is the electronic cigarette or e cigarette. These are cigarette shaped devices that vaporize a flavored liquid containing varied levels of nicotine to be inhaled by the user. The e cigarette looks, tastes and feels like a real cigarette but no have most of the harmful effects. E cigarette starter kits help first time users get a hang of using the device, allowing them to gradually reduce the number of cigarettes they smoke in a day. The lesser the number of cigarettes smoked, the lesser its impact on a person’s body and systems. Lowering of the quantity of tobacco smoke or complete eradication by using an e cigarette greatly improves the treatment of impotence and libido loss.

Surviving Diarrhea

Image via Wikipedia
Though we tend to make light of it in the US, diarrhea is the second cause of death in the world, aside from heart disease — causing over 1 million deaths a year.
Causes of diarrhea vary, but viral gastroenteritis, also known as the stomach flu, causes about 40% of all diarrhea cases each year. People who get diarrhea while traveling get the kind that is primarily caused from bacterial infections in unsanitary food or water. The other most common causes of diarrhea are food allergies, food sensitivities — like lactose intolerance — pernicious anemia, lack of pancreatic secretions and cancer therapy.
While you have diarrhea, your body is not able to absorb the nutrients it needs from your food as it passes through your digestive system. Eventually this will cause malnutrition and weight loss. Most diarrhea will run its course and stop on its own, and supportive treatment for diarrhea is similar for all types; you need to replace the electrolytes and liquids that your body is losing because of the diarrhea. Electrolytes are the basic salts that your body needs to function properly. Oral re-hydration is the most common method to help re-build lost salt content.
While the worse types of diarrhea may require antibacterial or antibiotic treatment from your doctor, most diarrhea can be treated with homeopathic or over the counter medications. Medicines that contain bismuth or loperamide can help shorten the duration of diarrhea. Codeine Phosphate can be used to slow down bowel movements, allowing your body to absorb water and get back to normal.
Diarrhea can quickly cause dehydration if you aren’t careful. Dehydration causes lose of important nutrients like potassium and magnesium. Drinking fruit or vegetable juice with an added pinch of salt or baking soda will help replace these nutrients.
Drinking plain water is also important while you have diarrhea. Your body needs two quarts a day on average. Always avoid caffeinated drinks when you have diarrhea because caffeine can irritate your bowels. Also avoid carbonated drinks, as they can make the diarrhea worse. You can, however, drink whole milk. Milk fat contains anti-infectious agents that might help stop the diarrhea.

Are Energy Drinks Good for you?

Lost Energy Drinks
Image via Wikipedia
Energy drinks have been growing in popularity; any grocery store, gas station or mini market has several kinds on hand, and some have dozens of varieties. These canned and bottled drinks are infused with “energy blends” that are supposed to help you get through your day, but are they good for you?
Most energy drinks contain large amounts of caffeine to give you a quick boost. With the caffeine are vitamins; vitamin B2, B3, B5, B8 and B2 are popular in energy drinks because they act as stimulants. Other ingredients are acai, taurine, ginseng, inositol, gingko biloba, maltodextrin and various other herbs and supplements depending on the brand. A lot of energy drinks contain massive amounts of sugar for that extra buzz, though most brands now offer a low sugar option.
The large dose of sugar will give you a quick boost, but it can also cause weight gain. The boost occurs when the sugar burns in your systems, triggering a release of adrenaline. There can always be too much of a good thing, though – too much sugar can actually burn out all of your adrenal stores and cause a severe “crash”. Crashes are physical and mental dips in energy that can take hours to recover from.
Studies show that energy drinks improve upper body muscle function, as well as mental function. Caffeine heightens cognitive performance, and a cup of coffee has anywhere from 80 to 150 mg of caffeine. Some energy drinks have the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee, but many contain two or three times as much caffeine. Some brands proudly declare on the can that they contain the maximum legal amount of caffeine!
Excessive drinking of energy drinks can make you irritable, unable to sleep and anxious from the caffeine. You should wait several hours in between each drink and avoid drinking energy drinks four hours before you go to bed. If you consume energy drinks, be aware that they can cause more of a crash then coffee or tea. The side effect that bothers most people when consuming energy drinks is an irregular heartbeat known as cardic dysrhythmia.

How to Avoid Heat Exhaustion

Nci-vol-1954-300 hyperthermia therapy
Image via Wikipedia
Your body deals with excessive heat by sweating — relaxing the pores in your skin to allow water to escape, reducing temperature through evaporation. When you work outside for long hours and are exposed to constant heat, your body is under a lot of stress. As long as your body has enough water to produce sweat and cool itself, it can keep running smoothly. If you don’t drink enough fluids, however, your built-in cooling system can get confused and stop functioning in an attempt to conserve fluids for other functions. If your body is deprived of fluids for too long a time it will stop producing sweat to regulate body temperature. When that happens, your core body temperature can rise quickly.  This condition is what we call heat exhaustion.
The lack of sweat is the first tell-tale sign; if you suddenly stop sweating in hot conditions, you need to get out of the sun quickly. As heat exhaustion progresses, other symptoms may follow, including nausea, dizziness, abruptly feeling tired, clammy skin and a rapid heartbeat.
If getting into the shade isn’t enough to stop these symptoms, lay down in a cool place. Loosen any tight clothing, put your feet up and drink cool water. You may consider spraying yourself down with cool water or lying down in front of a fan. A cool bath may help. If your symptoms prevent you from moving, stay where other people can see you. If your body temperature goes over 104, you might run the risk of a seizure, heatstroke and possibly a heart attack.
To avoid heat exhaustion there are a few precautions you can follow. Don’t wait until you’re overheated to drink water. Carry a bottle with you and drink constantly to keep yourself hydrated. Always move to a cool, well air-conditioned area when taking a break from your outdoor activity.
Alcohol and caffeine can cause you to overheat more easily, so avoid them if you are going to be in the sun for hours. For something tastier than water, carry juice-sweetened drinks. Wearing loose clothing will allow your body to cool more efficiently.

Why Do I Need Health Insurance?

Do you ever ask yourself, “Why do I need health insurance?” If you are young, healthy, and disease free, then this is likely a question you’ve asked yourself many times. To pay for health insurance premiums every month, and never have a need for a doctor, it may seem like a waste to have insurance. But the truth is, you do need health insurance, even if you are young and healthy.

Health Insurance
No matter your age or situation in life, you need to be prepared for an emergency. Being young and healthy is something you can, in most cases, control. You can exercise, eat healthy, and avoid bad habits. But you cannot control an unforeseen accident. For those times when life sneaks up on you and you find yourself in need of emergency care, health insurance comes in really handy.

Let’s imagine for a moment that you are playing basketball (you know, as part of being healthy) and you trip. Your leg is broken, you are in a lot of pain, and the only thing you can do is rush to the emergency room. That trip to the emergency room for a broken leg can easily cost you hundreds of dollars. You have the medication you may receive, any x-rays to see where the break is, the doctor’s bill, and of course, the casting. All of these things that take place in the emergency room quickly add up! Health insurance would help offset those costs to you.

Yes, it’s true. Accidents do happen. You can be prepared for any kind of emergency situation by getting some health insurance.  Pets are the dearest one’s for us and pet owners can enjoy pet insurance benefits. Who can suspect that day when your balance is near to nil due to veterinary hospital bill? It’s better to awake in front and subscribe an insurance plan for your pet. Hopefully, you never have to use that insurance, but it never hurts to be prepared. Having some health insurance will help you prepare for unfortunate incidents and help keep you emotionally and financially secure.

Payday Loans are Simple to Receive

day in the life: lunch money

When his health began declining, he didn’t have the cash for the hospital bills. He knew getting well and staying in good health was essential, but he didn’t have the cash. It depressed him to think that he was going to have to get another one of those payday loans. Not that he was down on the idea in general. In actual fact, he thought it was kind of a great thing that in this day and age, there was a way to get money fast, so you could buy what you needed right away. On the other hand, maybe this wasn’t such a new concept. Maybe since the beginning of time, there had always been people who were willing to loan small amounts of money at high interest rates. After all, the lender was taking on a lot of risk by giving you the money without doing a credit check. Well, all he knew was that he’d need to get that loan. The great thing about going to the lender was that there was a pretty girl who worked there, and he might just see her again. Maybe this time he’d have the guts to ask her out. She usually wore big silver hoop earrings, and she had really full lips. He wondered if she had a policy against dating customers. He couldn’t see her being that strict. She probably had a policy against dating her co-workers, but customers would be okay. He imagined what he could say to her. Problem was, she would know that he needed money, and that wouldn’t score him any points with her. Maybe he could say that he was giving the money to a friend, someone who was an illegal immigrant, so he couldn’t get the money himself. He pondered this story. He’d have to come up with a name for this friend and some background, like that the guy’s son was in the hospital, and the man was desperate. That’s why he had to help him. He was just that kind of person, really compassionate.
